Extendable Tables

Extendable Dining Tables have become very popular in the contemporary world of furniture. If you are unsure of how many people to expect for dinner, an extendable Dining Table can fix all of your problems. These tables are perfect in glass, solid oak, pine, and veneered wood.

There are many different types of extendable tables. For example, the Hyper Table by Calligaris features a set of “leaves” on either end that flip up and fasten into place. When they are not being used, the leaves are stored underneath the table and do not get in the way when the table is not extended.

Another type of extending mechanism is features in the Park Table by Calligaris where the two ends of the table get pulled apart and the middle section self-storing leaf is lifted and fastened into place.

Some extendable tables have a side extension that is hidden inside the table and is pulled out when needed.

Instead of extending a table at its ends, some can also be extended in the middle. In this case, the main table top is separated by a join. At this point the table can be pulled apart so that one or more panels can be inserted. The extension panels fitted below the table top automatically lift into place when the table is pulled apart.

The Baron Table by Calligaris features an extension system that pulls out the frame and twists the concealed extension leaf into place, keeping the table legs at the corners so guests can be seated in maximum comfort.

Some tables extend by pulling out both sides of the table and the integrated central extension section folds out upwards. The Bon Ton Table by Calligaris features a mechanism where you slide the rectangular glass top sideways to lift the glass extension leaf into place.

The Convoy Table by Calligaris has three extension leaves stored in the under frame, the laminate top can be extended to 4 different lengths: 130, 180, 230 and 280 cm.

Although many extendable tables are rectangular in shape, there are many contemporary styled oval or round shaped extendable tables. You will not often find a circular extendable table due to lack of leg room but an oval table when extended provides a comfortable 10-seater table. For example, the Atelier Table by Calligaris extends at both sides and a middle butterfly leaf section folds up from underneath and is fixed in place.

Depending on the size of your family, there are many different sizes of extendable tables that you can choose from. For a small family, there are tables that sit four people and can be extended to easily sit up to six people. If you have a larger family, there are larger tables that when extended can comfortably sit up to ten people. Once dinner time is over, your table can be put back into a smaller size to reclaim your space in the kitchen or dining room.
